Descendants of Lambert Maas

Follow this link to see all of the descendants of Lambert and Elske Blomers  Maas which starts back in the first half of the 1600’s and goes all the way to the present time.  If you were to print out the list, it is over 100 pages long and contains almost 3,000 individual names.  Now there is something very interesting about this family tree. 

If I were to actually do just the Lambert Maas tree it would be very short and end only at the second generation.  You see, Lambert’s daughter, Margaretha, was the heir apparent and all that goes with it...including the name.  Back it those days, the husband took the wife’s name if she were the heir apparent.  So when Margaretha married William Stripping, he dropped his name and took the name of Maas, thereby becoming William Maas.  The reason I say that Lambert’s family tree would end at the second generation is because Margaretha passed away before she and William had any children.  William kept the Maas name so that the Maas estate that Margaretha and then he inherited would continue to be passed down holding on the Maas name.  So actually the Maas blood line is really not Maas at all...it is Stripping.   William Stripping (Maas) married Anna Grete Dapper and it is their line of which we are all a part of that you will see here.
